Hike & Relax
What the day looks like
I pick you up at 8 am from your accommodation in Mendoza city or nearby, and we drive about 50 minutes to Potrerillos along Route 89, through Cacheuta, following the river up into the mountains.
We walk up to a viewpoint at 1,553 m. It's around 250 m of ascent and takes an hour and a half round trip, so it's short, but there's a climb. We go at your pace and stop whenever you want. If anyone would rather take it easier, there's a gentler route in the same area. At the top the whole Potrerillos lake and the Cordón del Plata open up in front of you. We carry fruit, trail mix and alfajores.
Then we come down to the shore, to an authorised swimming area, and stay a good while. Get in the water to cool off, sit in the sun, or do nothing at all. This is the part the day is built around.
Before heading back we share mate with tortitas mendocinas, the local pastry. No rush.
You're back at your accommodation around 1 pm, with the afternoon free for wineries or for nothing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I actually swim in the lake?
We go to an authorised swimming area. How far you get in is up to you and the water temperature: some people swim, most just get their feet in and cool off.
Is it suitable for kids?
Yes. It's a short walk and the lake makes it easy.
What if it's cold or the weather turns?
The walk and the viewpoint work all year. If the water is too cold, we stop at the shore anyway and have the mate there. If the weather makes the day pointless, we move it or I refund you.
How does it compare to the full-day hike?
This one is shorter, closer to town, and in an area where you'll see other people. Wild Andes Hike is a full day, further out, with a homemade lunch and hours without crossing anyone.
Do I need hiking experience?
No. It's an hour and a half of walking and there's a gentler route if you'd rather.
